Our Weed and Grass Allergy Test Panel measures the level of specific IgE antibodies in your blood that activate an immune response to specific weed and grass allergens. This includes antibodies Russian thistle, giant ragweed, nettle, rough marsh elder, sheep sorrel, mugwort, common ragweed, Bermuda grass, rough pigweed, timothy grass, Johnson grass, perennial rye grass, and bahia grass.
Weeds and grasses are common causes of allergy-related symptoms. They produce small, light, and dry allergenic pollen grains that travel by the wind. Your immune system produces antibodies against infections, toxins, bacteria, and viruses as it works to keep your body healthy. These antibodies detect and eliminate harmful foreign substances from your body. However, when you have a weed or grass allergy, your body produces antibodies that incorrectly identify these substances as harmful.
If you are affected by allergies, chances are that you understand the associated symptoms all too well. However, reactions may be dependent on your specific allergy type. Our Weed and Grass Allergy Test Panel may be helpful in identifying if you have had or currently have an allergic reaction to weed and grass. You may have experienced or experience any of the following signs and symptoms:
Breathing or inhaling marijuana allergens can result in nasal or ocular or eye allergy symptoms. This includes runny nose, sneezing, itching, and swelling and watering eyes. Asthma with the development of wheezing and shortness of breath also can occur. Anaphylaxis has also been reported.
Ragweed plants are notorious for being the most common weed pollen allergens and are most active between late spring and autumn months. Apart from ragweed, sagebrush and tumbleweed are also common weed pollen allergens.
Ragweed is the biggest troublemaker of all weeds. A single plant can produce a million grains of pollen every day. There are more than a dozen species of ragweed, but it is not the only offender. Other highly allergic species include English Plantain, Lamb's Quarters, Redroot Pigweed, Sagebrush and Tumbleweed.
